Auberge Resorts Collection will soon add a second European hotel to its portfolio. Domaine des Etangs, a 13th-century chateau in Massignac, France, will officially join Auberge in April.
“As we continue our focused expansion in Europe, we are thrilled to add this magnificent and historic property to Auberge Resorts Collection’s portfolio of one-of-a-kind hotels,” says Auberge chairman Dan Friedkin. “We are honored that Garance Primat has entrusted us to manage another one of her family’s properties that, like Primland in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is devoted to helping travelers forge a unique and authentic connection with its locale.”
Set upon 2,500 acres of preserved nature, Domaine des Etangs serves as a haven of raw beauty and coveted quietude. The retreat showcases a curated selection of modern art and architectural artisan interventions.
A former onsite mill was transformed into a wellness sanctuary complete with a thermal baths pool house, while a floating tennis court, heated outdoor pool, and children’s play area provide outdoor recreation. An onsite organic farm grows ingredients featured on the menu at Dyades, the manor 40-seat restaurant.
Accommodations include six generously spaced Metairie Farmhouse Cottages as well as the Longère, which houses four multi-story suites decorated to reflect the seasons. Traditional wooden beams and fireplaces anchor interiors wrapped in a nature-inspired color palette. The main chateau accommodates seven additional guestrooms and suites outfitted with conical spires of oak beams in that spiral overhead.
