New York-based studio Champalimaud Design has announced the completion of new guestroom renovations at historic Swiss hotel Badrutt’s Palace, which opened in St. Moritz in 1896. The refurbished 31 guestrooms and nine suites maintain many hallmarks of the original design, while incorporating contemporary elements to better suit the modern traveler.
A color palette of creamy white and blue draw inspiration from the hotel’s Alpine setting, as well as the rare Persian carpets that decorate the storied property. A variety of existing antiques are layered with new furnishings, lighting, and bespoke embroidered fabrics to create a residential-style elegance across the interior. Designed to facilitate long stays, the upgraded chambers also feature grand closets and reimagined bathrooms recall Old World details, such as metallic accents.
“One of the most spectacular aspects of St. Moritz is the quality of the light, and we designed the rooms with that in mind,” says Champalimaud Design partner and CEO Ed Bakos. “We thought about all the reasons people visit and designed around that mindset. Badrutt’s guests have always sought adventure, comfort, and great experiences that are both social and private.”
The updated accommodations will be fully completed this winter.
