Hotel Saint Augustine, a boutique hotel from Austin-based hospitality group Bunkhouse, is now officially open in Houston.
Located in the city in Montrose’s Museum District, the new-build property features 71 rooms and suites spread across five small buildings, which includes all-day restaurant Perseid, an intimate event space, a lobby lounge and listening room, and circular heated pool.
Architecture by Lake|Flato
With architecture by Texas firm Lake|Flato and landscaping from Ten Eyck, the hotel is an immersive indoor-outdoor experience.
Five small two-story buildings blend into the neighborhood’s residential character, connected by open-air bridges, porches, and winding pathways that weave through four lushly landscaped courtyards. A material palette of elongated gray brick and combed wood siding complements the verdant surroundings.
Inside Hotel Saint Augustine
The hotel’s interior design was executed by design studio Post Company in collaboration with Bunkhouse’s in-house team.
Designed to evoke the feel of a curator’s private home, the lobby unfolds like a layered living room. A burled walnut reception desk with marble accents anchors the space, while sheer linen theatrical drapery divides adjacent parlors and seating areas, creating intimate nooks for gatherings throughout the day.
Deep blue walls and ceilings in the lobby and bar heighten the sense of otherworldliness, while large framed windows offer glimpses of the courtyard and screened porches, blending indoors and out.
Dreamlike guestrooms
Hotel Saint Augustine’s 71 guestrooms feature distinct layouts, each infused with playful furnishings and surrealist details that disrupt conventional proportions.
Monochromatic hues—ranging from deep blue and rich red to sage and mustard—envelop the beds, framed by ceramic wall tiles and indulgent drapery. Velvet textures, oversized sculptural lighting, and amoebic-shaped wall mirrors play into the hotel’s dreamlike sensibility, while nickel and chrome finishes add a modern, textural contrast.
