The InterContinental Chiang Mai the Mae Ping, part of the IHG Hotels & Resorts portfolio, is now open in the historic district of Chiang Mai, Thailand.
To transform the existing Imperial Mae Ping Hotel, Thai design firm PIA Interior embarked on a journey of intertwining the rich tapestry of traditional Lanna heritage with the storied past of the property’s 30-year legacy.
Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a sensory experience, including gong chimes that connect them to the adjacent Wat Chang Kong temple. The 600-year-old stupa has been preserved along with a landscaped lawn, where the resort will host performances.
Each of the 240 guestrooms and suites offer views overlooking the old town or the misty slopes of Doi Suthep mountain. The accommodations’ design fuses soft, modern minimalism with Lanna-inspired décor. Lacquered panels, wood-carved sculptures, and items handmade by local artisans pay homage to traditional Lanna crafts. Each room also features a generously sized zen bathroom complete with a plunge bathtub.
Onsite F&B options include the Gad Lanna, which resembles a traditional market, as well as the Kam Lobby Lounge, which overlooking the main pool and evokes the spirit of the Yi Peng Lantern Festival through its décor.
