Atlanta’s buzzy Midtown Union neighborhood is now home to the newly opened Kimpton Shane Hotel. Located in the “Heart of the Arts,” the 230-room boutique retreat was crafted to reflect the expressiveness of the local culture through a sophisticated design by Cooper Carry and Dallas-based Studio 11 Design.
“The hotel’s design reflects the growing creative and art-driven community, with an emphasis on striking sculptural elements, like the massive tree on the mezzanine level, textured furnishings, and dramatic lighting,” says Studio 11 cofounder and principal Kellie Sirna. “These ‘focal points’ are an ode to the artistic energy of the neighborhood and complemented by soft earth tones, plush accents, and contemporary fixtures to create a warm, yet decidedly modern experience.”
A palette of natural materials and neutral color draws upon the artistic allure of the neighborhood, forming a backdrop that allows artful, sculptural furnishings and lighting to stand out. The work of many local artists fill the handsome interior with a sense of place thanks to a collaboration with art consultancy Soho Myriad.
In addition to more than 6,600 square feet of flexible meeting and event space on the hotel’s second floor, F&B concepts Aveline and Hartley’s Kitchen & Cocktails serve as key social hubs. Aveline comprises a cocktail bar, lounge, and outdoor space overlooking Arts Center Way, while the casually polished American concept Hartley’s frames views of a tree-lined pedestrian promenade. Both eateries are crafted with a range of cozy nooks as well as larger seating areas anchored by plush furnishings. “The hotel restaurant and bar are a cornerstone of any great property,” Sirna adds. “The Kimpton Shane Hotel is located in an art-driven area within a new corporate development so creating an environment that effortlessly straddles the line between statement and personality-driven, and warm and sophisticated was crucial.”
