Noble House Hotels & Resorts has completed its $22 million refresh of the Kona Kai Resort & Spa in San Diego.
The project included a top-to-bottom renovation of the property’s 129 guestrooms; lobby; public spaces; waterfront restaurant, Vessel; and the addition of 55,000 square feet of meetings space. The 7,020-square-foot SpaTerre was also newly added, while the tiki bar F&B outlet was rebuilt.
“The resort’s enhancement is not only a physical property makeover, but an entire refreshment of the atmosphere in order to create a purely customized guest experience,” says Pat Colee, owner, founder, and chairman of the board of Noble House Hotels & Resort. “This restoration emphasizes the history and charm of a property that has, for decades, been a favored escape for Southern Californians.”
A San Diego landmark, Kona Kai Club and its marina were originally launched in 1953 as one of the first developments on Shelter Island—at the time, a predominantly Polynesian-themed vacation destination. The Kona Inn hotel was opened next door in 1959.
