Landscape and Luxury Converge at the Dali EDITION

Positioned between Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake, the hotel celebrates Yunnan’s cultural heritage

Perched on the slopes of Cangshan Mountain in Yunnan, China, at an elevation of nearly 6,860 feet, the Dali EDITION overlooks the expansive Erhai Lake, a region shaped by centuries of trade routes and cultural exchange connecting Southwest China with its neighboring regions.

The hotel, envisioned by CCD/Cheng Chung Design, unfolds as a modern neighborhood integrated into its natural setting. Interiors are anchored by materials drawn from the region—aged timber, bluestone, and Erhai Lake pebbles—to create spaces that feel tactile yet restrained.

Guided by Dali’s natural landscape, the hotel’s materiality and palette respond to uninterrupted views of the surrounding scenery, while expansive glazing and open layouts allow for a sense of fluidity.

There are 151 accommodations—including a collection of private villas with swimming pools that are positioned towards the mountain, lake, or landscaped gardens—across the property.

Inside the guestrooms, proportion and natural light create a sense of calm. Beginning at approximately 646 square feet, most rooms look out toward Erhai Lake or Cangshan Mountain, and boast interiors layered in tactile materials and soft lighting. Bathrooms, finished in white stone and articulated through subtle level changes and sunken soaking tubs, offer moments of stillness and retreat.

Of note, the 2,690-square-feet presidential suite boasts an indoor pool, private courtyard, outdoor terrace, and ceilings rising more than 16 feet. The expansive interior is anchored by a suspended fireplace and a sculptural stone chandelier.

Dining drawn from the land

The Dali EDITION’s dining venues are each designed as light-filled, tranquil spaces. Market at EDITION presents an all-day, farm-to-table experience with open kitchens, while Japanese concept KUSHO centers on wood-fired cooking. The brand’s signature lobby bar anchors the hotel’s social rhythm, transitioning from daytime tea service to evening cocktails. Meanwhile, a forthcoming Chinese restaurant will draw on elements of Bai architecture, with lines, textures, and materials interwoven to reflect the landscape.

Outdoors, the Tea House hosts a program that invites guests to engage with each step of the tea-making process, offering an intimate lens into Yunnan’s tea culture.

Spaces for gathering and relaxation

The grand ballroom—complete with an adjoining lawn to extend gatherings outdoors beneath Cangshan Mountain—moves from day to evening through integrated lighting and acoustics. Four meeting studios offer flexible environments equipped with advanced technology.

For rejuvenation, the spa comprises five private treatment rooms that each open to a serene courtyard. The gym features an indoor-outdoor yoga terrace and a 82-foot indoor swimming pool.
