The Hoxton has made its debut in the El Poblenou section of Barcelona, Spain. The Hoxton, Poblenou, which marks brand’s 11th hotel opening, reflects the verve of its setting with a design by the in-house team at Ennismore that reinterprets the signatures of Spanish architecture.
“Our starting point was our neighborhood, Poblenou, and its unexpected past as an industrial hub and the epicenter of the textiles industry,” says Ennismore associate designer Chris Stringfellow. “We also drew inspiration from the work of Riccardo Bofill, a Spanish architect whose bold use of color, shape, and tile embody a contemporary take on a Mediterranean palette. This destination is a light and airy retreat in the city—you can’t help but feel relaxed as you immerse yourself in this serene space.”
A sweeping bar welcomes visitors with an animated bar face handpainted by local artist Maria Marvila. Peachy lime paints, deep blue tiled arches, and polished concrete floors compose a backdrop in the lobby, where a mix of contemporary and vintage furniture showcase local craftsmanship.
The Four Corners pizza restaurant also anchors the ground floor, complete with a sun terrace and an attached bodega concept. Tope, a taqueria and bar, crowns the hotel alongside the rooftop pool deck.
Terracotta tiles line the floors of the hotel’s 240 guestrooms to set a warm foundation. Soft blue fabrics, whitewashed timbers, and faded floral prints adorning the upholstered furniture serve as key focal points along with bespoke tapestries that canopy each bed.
