The StandardX will debut its inaugural outpost in Australia next week.
The new hotel concept from Standard International takes the iconic Standard Hotel brand back to its youthful roots.
Located in the vibrant, post-industrial enclave of Fitzroy, the StandardX, Melbourne takes inspiration from the neighborhood’s 1970s and ’80s heyday when experimental art, music, and culture flourished.
The StandardX, Melbourne’s simple aesthetic
Keeping with the DNA of Standard, style rules at the StandardX, with interiors led by locally based interior design firm Hecker Guthrie.
Guests enter the lobby through a bold revolving door, arriving on the ground floor, which opens to an airy elevated loft featuring a fireplace.
Columns wrapped in macrame by artist Sarah Smalltown and paintings from Dane Lovett are complemented by custom furniture and antiques.
From an intimate “cozy king” to a spacious “suite spot,” the 125 rooms at the StandardX, Melbourne are defined by a contemporary, uncomplicated aesthetic.
Awash in a palette of blue and white, the accommodations feature a centrally placed bed paired with a millwork ledge that doubles as a writing corner and open closet. Melbourne’s local talent is showcased throughout via works from artists like Jane Sinclair and more.
The StandardX, Melbourne is also home to a trio of dining concepts: BANG, an all-day Thai concept; the Roof, a secret hideaway accessible exclusively to hotel guests; and the Box, a lobby retail concept with grab-and-go options.
