Washington, DC’s iconic Watergate Hotel is celebrating its grand reopening following a thorough $125 million rejuvenation. The historic hotel previously closed its doors in 2007. Internationally renowned designer Ron Arad was tapped by the hotel’s owners, Euro Capital Properties, to complement the eccentric flow of the distinct architecture with a new regal and bold mid-century modern look. The Washington, DC-base architecture and interior design firm BBGM served as the architects on the project.
Each of the hotel’s 336 elegant guestrooms are bathed in natural light and soothing color palettes, while half are elevated with balconies with views of the city as well as the Potomac River. The floor-to-ceiling Zebrano marble bathrooms are all equipped with solid granite vanities. Six Diplomat Suites, 24 premier suites, and two Presidential Suites are available as well.
Overseen by executive chef Michael Santoro, onsite dining options include the contemporary Kingbird restaurant, a dual-concept American-French venue with patio seating; the lobby’s Next Whisky Bar, framed by an undulating wall of sculpted whisky bottles bathed in bronze light; and the Top of the Gate rooftop lounge, which is slated for a release later this summer.
Eleven indoor-outdoor spaces housed among the hotel’s 27,000 square feet of meeting and function venues. The 7,000-square-foot Moretti Grand Ballroom is a new addition to the Watergate, and features LED light panels, a Gucci-designed marble wall, and 10,000 square feet of outdoor space with river views.
The 12,000-square-foot Argentta Spa will debut later this summer with eight treatment suites, an aerobic space, barre studio, gym, and even a 15-yard indoor saltwater swimming pool.
