Fashion brand Cult Gaia has unveiled a new store in Los Angeles’ Palisades Village.
Founder and designer Jasmin Hekmat worked in collaboration with New York-based firm Sugarhouse to bring the 1,225-square-foot boutique to life.
Given the store’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean, Sugarhouse incorporated both literal and subtle references to the sea. For instance, plaster walls and flooring—made from pastellone with terracotta granules—are finished with a technique that mirrors the grainy composition, texture, and color of sand, enveloping the space in a palette of pale cream and golden beige.
Softened edges are found throughout, as seen in the interior contour of the boutique, wave-shaped sofa and clothing rods, and furnishings reminiscent of rock formations.
Metallic finishes, such as the shell front door handle made from a chrome mold and custom mirrors finished in a shiny plaster finish, reflect and refract light around the room. The store holds a shimmering, dream-like quality that mirrors the effect of the ocean floor.
The opening marks Cult Gaia’s sixth brick and mortar location, with current stores in the Hamptons, West Hollywood, New York, Miami, and St. Barts.
