Vermont-based interior designer the McBride Company has unveiled its latest experiential retail destination in the Chicago metro area with the launch of cannabis dispensary Enlightened. Located in Schaumburg, Illinois, Enlightened is operated by locally based cannabis company Revolution Global in an effort to make cannabis more accessible to the general public.
“Inclusivity is key to their brand messaging,” says Johnnie Rush, head of innovation for the McBride Company. “We wanted to create a space that could appeal to a large cross section of people who may be shopping for a variety of different reasons.”
Spread across 4,500 square feet, Enlightened’s intuitive design instills a sense of calm through a natural materiality and soft light gradients expressed with help from translucent acrylic panels. The clean and comforting aesthetic is accented by wood and greenery, while Calacatta quartz tops counters and chunky pink terrazzo tiles span the floors.
Visitors are greeted upon arrival with a bold, red wall emblazoned with a brand name to balance the neutrality of the interior and add a dash whimsy. A central, glowing hub serves as the main focal point, with a live tree and a custom halo-like fixture is installed above it. Sleek glass shadow boxes line the store to display cannabis products, encased in white oak and custom millwork and equipped with technological touchpoints that complement the space’s modern fixtures.
