Facebook’s Silicon Valley headquarters has unveiled a new extension courtesy of Los Angeles-based Gehry Partners. The tech giant’s Menlo Park campus in Palo Alto, California has christened its $300 million new addition MPK 21, which totals 525,000 square feet.
A sunken garden known as the Bowl links MPK 21 to MPK 20, complete with tiered seating levels and workspaces outfitted among the greenery. Crowned with an additional 3.6-acre rooftop garden, MPK 21 features a sawtooth roof conceived to flood interiors with natural light. A central courtyard at the heart of the new design is outfitted with F&B spaces, redwood trees, and other amenities. Still awaiting completion are the elevated pedestrian and bike pathway and 2,000-seat events space.
Sustainability measures for the addition include a water recycling system, photovoltaic solar panels, and extensive daylighting.
