Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has unveiled its design for a new 1 million-square-foot Google campus in Sunnyvale, California. (The New York, Copenhagen, and London-based architecture firm is also working with Google on the company’s London headquarters and a canopied campus in nearby Mountain View, California, both in a collaboration with Heatherwick Studio.) Conceived in collaboration with the Mountain View, California-based tech giant, the campus will be appointed with two main structures measuring 505,078 and 537,000 square feet, respectively.
Positioned side by side, both of the five-story volumes will boast external pathways that zigzag from street level to the rooftop. Glazed walls and greenery will be incorporated into the slopes and remaining façades. Los Angeles-based firm Clive Wilkinson Architects will spearhead the interiors for the property, which will accommodate 4,500 Google employees.
The 40.5-acre project is slated for completion in 2021 at the earliest with plans to include housing on the campus.
