Culture-driven lifestyle concept Manifest has debuted in Washington, DC’s Adams Morgan neighborhood. Crafted by New York-based design practice Snarkitecture, the multifunctional space houses a barbershop, artisanal coffee shop, retail store, 30-seat cocktail bar, and a bookable residence.
“When we set out to design Manifest, it needed to be a new kind of barbershop that was inviting to all people. Simultaneously, we wanted to create a sanctuary, a community space, an institution, a one-of-a-kind experience that still feels like home,” says Snarkitecture partner Alex Mustonen. “The design unifies the café, retail, and barbershop space into a singular environment with self-care and wellness front and center.”
Each area of Manifest is unified by a motif of archways that symbolize the defiance of past conventions and the embrace of innovation. Linear elements also abound, amplifying a sense of community and connection.
Curved walls in the boutique barbershop shield a clandestine staircase that leads to Out of Office, a cozy speakeasy-style bar upstairs. The arch motif continues here to create intimate seating and lounge enclaves.
High-end grooming and fashion from designers including Rick Owens DRKSHW, Homme Plisee, and Manifest’s own Of US line are also shoppable onsite.
