Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa in Avon, Colorado, has become the state’s—and the brand’s—first hotel to achieve LEED Silver certification. The resort, which opened a year ago, implemented a number of eco-conscious strategies, including:
• Low- and no-VOC paints, adhesives, and carpets
• 50 percent of the electricity available from renewable sources, including wind power
• 40 percent of the total building materials and products sourced within 500 miles of the project
• 10 percent of building materials made from post-consumer/industrial recycled content such as the roof tiles made from recycled automobile tires
• Enhancement and donation of five-acre riparian zone to the town of Avon as permanent public open space
• Building control system that allows front desk associates to adjust the temperature in individual rooms upon guest arrival/departure so that unoccupied rooms are not unnecessarily heated or cooled
• Use of environmentally friendly products and organic linens at Spa Anjali, Colorado’s first dedicated green spa
The Westin Riverfront was designed by the architectural firm of Hornberger + Worstell of San Francisco in conjunction with OZ Architecture of Boulder, Colorado, which is the architect of record. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill oversaw interiors.
