When luxury brand Shinola decided to expand to hospitality in its native Detroit, it looked to local architecture firm Kraemer Design Group and New York firm Gachot to conceive a modern classic. The 129-room property features a welcoming mix of materials—all inspired by relics from the past uncovered during the renovation. “It has truly become Detroit’s living room,” says Gachot cofounder Christine Gachot.
