citizenM Austin Downtown

citizenM continues to flourish stateside with openings in Miami’s South Beach, Boston’s Back Bay, and downtown Austin. Joining the brand this month, the latter features 344 guestrooms and is filled with objects and artwork from talents like Mexican artist Hilda Palafox, aka Poni, who spruced up the rooftop pool and bar area, and local painter Calhan Hale, who invigorated the façade with stripes of color symbolizing the city’s abundant nature.

Drift Nashville

Originally built as an inn in 1966, the building shows off a warm palette of rust and terracotta, furniture by local artisans, and three F&B venues spearheaded by entrepreneur Alexis Soler, including the Sun Room with its standout golden-tiled bar.

Natural tones that channel the sand and sea are punctuated by pops of color and contemporary art. The property will also include a pool with cabanas, lounge, fitness center, and a combined 10,000 square feet of event space.

Hotel Saint Augustine, Houston

For the 71-room Hotel Saint Augustine, debuting in Houston at the end of the year, Bunkhouse set its sights on the Museum District, the city’s cultural epicenter. Spread over five new-build structures connected via gardens, winding pathways, and alfresco spaces, the design will juxtapose tradition with modernity through elements like a cloistered circular pool in the courtyard and an intimate listening room.

Pendry Natirar, New Jersey

Pendry’s latest project is a Tudor-style mansion backdropped by 400 acres of rolling hills and woodlands in New Jersey’s Somerset County. Less than an hour drive from New York, the pastoral getaway will boast 66 guestrooms and 24 adjoining residences, as well as a spa that nods to both Morocco and the English countryside. Guests can gather in the Mansion Tavern, anchored by the great room and its cozy seating around the fireplace, or Ninety Acres, the restaurant and cooking school dedicated to sustainable farm produce.

Treehouse Sunnyvale, California

Following its inaugural London location, Treehouse Hotels—the sister brand to 1 Hotels—will pop up next in England this spring with a Manchester property. It’s U.S. debut comes later this year with a hotel in Santa Clara Valley that fuses repurposed structures with an eco-friendly modular building constructed offsite. Most of the 254 guestrooms, decked out with rough-hewn wood, will offer private outdoor spaces that extend the allure of the onsite beer garden and courtyard pool.

W Union Square, New York

In 2000, the W Union Square opened in the former Guardian Life Insurance Company building, a 1911 Beaux Arts-style structure reimagined by Rockwell Group. Twenty-four years later, the firm is behind the landmark’s makeover, which flaunts a boldly colored runner that flows into the lobby from the curving staircase and a lively bar found underneath a coffered ceiling. To complete the redesign, the 256 guestrooms have been updated with soft green hues that nod to the park below.

Graduate Princeton, New Jersey

The 180-key Graduate Princeton will come online this spring in a restored and expanded dormitory dating from 1918 across from the Princeton campus. The design will pay homage to the building’s original Gothic architecture and weave in details like custom lamps that draw from the Revolutionary War-era cannons uncovered behind the university. In the bi-level library lounge, guests will sit at a custom communal table surrounded by a collection of nostalgic senior jackets.

The George, Georgetown, South Carolina

The first boutique hotel in historic Georgetown will be the George, a 56-key property opening in April that pulls from the Lowcountry city’s 18th- and 19th-century architecture and coastal setting with a mix of vintage furniture and local artwork. F&B outlets include the Independent and the Dockside Bar, where guests are invited to imbibe outdoors by the marina overlooking Winyah Bay.

Fairmont the Breakers, Long Beach, California

Celebrities flocked to the Breakers when it opened in Long Beach in 1926. Now, after a multiyear restoration, the hotel will be restored to its former glory as the city’s only luxury boutique hotel. In addition to five F&B venues—including the reopening of the renowned Sky Room and a jazz club—and a two-story spa and wellness center, the 185-room property will also offer a rooftop pool and open-air lounge with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.

The Surrey, a Corinthia Hotel, New York

Originally conceived as a residence hotel that attracted myriad celebrities, the Surrey opened on New York’s Upper East Side in 1926. Now part of the Corinthia Hotels collection (and the brand’s first U.S. property) the latest incarnation of the Surrey preserves its glittering past while looking to the future. One hundred Martin Brudnizki-designed guestrooms—including four suites that take cues from Central Park—join 14 residences, an expansive spa, and restaurant, lounge, and private members’ club from Casa Tua.

The Ranch Hudson Valley, New York

The Ranch has a cult following for its fitness and wellness retreat in Malibu, and when its 25-room Hudson Valley sibling arrives in April, East Coast denizens can partake in programs revolving around hiking, yoga, and plant-based cuisine. The restored 1902 estate on 200 acres straddling Sloatsburg and Tuxedo Park is replete with fireplaces and carved plaster ceilings and features a spa, solarium pool, and a dining room overlooking the lake and gardens.

Hotel Anna & Bel, Philadelphia

Renovating the 18th-century building housing Anna & Bel, a former women’s asylum and retirement home in Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood, unearthed antique wallpaper and pastel hues that established the tone of the latest hotel from Life House, which opens in March. All 50 guestrooms have different layouts, with a few of them sporting balconies that look onto the courtyard and pool. Rounding out the property will be a sauna, coworking lounge, and Bastia restaurant.

Hotel Bardo, Savannah, Georgia

Savannah’s one-time Mansion on Forsyth Park finds new life as the Hotel Bardo, the flagship property opening in February from hospitality and real estate development firm Left Lane. Warren Street Hotel, New York

Crosby Street Hotel in Soho and the Whitby Hotel in Midtown put the London-based Firmdale Hotels on the New York map. This time around, the brand is making its foray into the city’s Tribeca neighborhood in March with the Warren Street Hotel, where a palette of blue and green and bold botanical splashes in the 69 guestrooms (some of them bolstered by private terraces) are a soft contrast to the industrial-style building.

Set to open this spring in Denver’s up-and-coming Belleview Station neighborhood, the 19-story Kimpton Claret takes its name from the vibrant shade of red found throughout Colorado’s landscape. Home to 190 guestrooms (including four spacious suites) and 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space, the property will also star two distinct F&B outlets: the ground-floor Italian-inspired Saverina restaurant and the rooftop bar, which will offer dramatic views of the Rocky Mountains.

Waldorf Astoria New York

The Midtown East icon, now a mix of 375 guestrooms and 375 private residences, will celebrate its reopening in December by embracing its Art Deco architecture—heightened by a display of artifacts like Cole Porter’s piano. New additions will include a 30,000-square-foot spa, restaurant, and tableside cocktail rituals that pay tribute to the historic Peacock Alley.

Urban Cowboy Denver

Originally built as a 19th-century mansion on the site of an ancient fortress (the painter Lemmo Rossi-Scotti was among its denizens), the Borgo dei Conti Resort was eventually reimagined as an Umbrian countryside retreat. Now part of the Hospitality Experience—the Italian family-owned company behind Londra Palace Venezia and the Place Firenze—the 40-room property will emerge from a significant revamp this summer that highlights heritage features like the restored arched entrance and monumental oven dating from 1900.

Viceroy at Ombria Algarve, Portugal

Set to open this summer, WATG and Promontorio have reimagined the sustainable-minded Viceroy at Ombria Algarve resort in southern Portugal as a traditional countryside village starring an 18-hole golf course, spa with indoor vitality pool, and eight restaurants and bars. The 76 guestrooms and 65 residences will boast private balconies and soaking tubs that amplify the verdant landscape, while blue and white hues and earthy hand-plastered walls pay tribute to Portuguese tiles and craftsmanship.

Opening mid-2024, five levels of terraced Baroque gardens will instill the 82-room property with an Old-World air, matched by such contemporary amenities as an outdoor pool, wine tasting room, art gallery, and bar and lounge nestled in the one-time admissions office.

The Store Oxford, UK

Locals loved former department store Boswells, and today they can revel in the site’s rebirth as a hotel. Debuting in April, the Store Oxford, from the team behind Hotel Dame des Arts and Hotel des Grands Voyageurs in Paris, will boast charming vignettes like the lobby’s fireside snug. There is also a subterranean spa, the modern British restaurant Treadwell, a rooftop cocktail bar, and 101 guestrooms arrayed in two connected buildings that mix Art Deco touches with paneled walls and velvet headboards.

Patmos Aktis, Greece

The Hoxton, Vienna

Steps from Vienna’s iconic Stadtpark will be the 196-key Hoxton, housed in a 1950s modernist building that once served as the headquarters of Austria’s Chamber of Commerce. Past the original marble façade, the double-height lobby will lead to the bistro, subterranean cocktail den, rooftop bar and pool, and the Auditorium, the brand’s first entertainment venue. Following Vienna’s April launch, the Hoxton will open in Edinburgh, debuting three apartments, dubbed Hox Homes, that will unite 10 townhouses.

The Emory, London

London’s Belgravia district is the setting for the April launch of the Emory, Maybourne Hotel Group’s newcomer starring 60 suites and a penthouse. It will join siblings the Berkeley, Claridge’s, and the Connaught, with nine floors—each one courtesy of a different A-list designer—leading to a guest-only rooftop overlooking Hyde Park. An outpost of Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s ABC Kitchen and Surrenne, a private members club centered on wellness, will round out the unique hotel’s offerings.

It is emblematic of the chic Italian lifestyle with its sunny outdoor pool, Roman bath experience at Olea Wellness & Spa, and aperitivos sipped at Vertici restaurant.

The Newman, London

Debuting at the end of the year, the Newman, located in London’s Fitzrovia neighborhood, will be peppered with references to some of the area’s most well-known residents, such as the polka dots beloved by late 20th-century writer Nancy Cunard. Seafarers, a mixed-use development on the Yarra River in the emerging Northbank district, will be home to the 1 Hotel Melbourne when it opens later this year. 25hours Hotel The Oddbird, Jakarta

Ennismore is bringing its first 25hours Hotel in Asia to Jakarta this March. Housed within District 8, a striking architectural building in the heart of Sudirman Central Business District, the property will offer 210 guestrooms and 135 serviced residences. Meanwhile, its design will celebrate the brand’s quirky and colorful style, resulting in a playful experience driven by storytelling across its collection of F&B venues, wellness facilities, outdoor swimming pool, and themed meeting rooms and event spaces.

Perched atop a skyscraper that reaches a height of nearly 840 feet, the Conrad Chongqing will offer an elevated experience in the Nan’an district upon its May opening. Guests stepping into the soaring lobby lounge will be greeted with panoramic views of the hilly megacity. Meanwhile, the 275 rooms offer breathtaking vistas of the Changjiang River. Kotiyagala Luxury Villas, Palatupana, Sri Lanka

Set on a seven-acre estate in Sri Lanka’s coastal Yala region, the 12 suites and villas comprising the eco-conscious Kotiyagala resort will be integrated into the lush jungle landscape when it opens in March. Each unit, reached by elevated walkways, will float among the canopy of trees and feature floor-to-ceiling windows and a private deck and swimming pool that magnify glimpses of animals roaming in their natural habitats.

Six Senses Kyoto

Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas is welcoming a quartet of new locations this year. Its first Caribbean resort will debut on the island of Grenada, along with properties in London and Bangkok that are hubs for Six Senses Place, the brand’s just-launched social wellness membership club. Then there’s Kyoto, the first Japanese venture from Six Senses. Scheduled for a spring opening, it will be home to vast wellness offerings as well as 81 guestrooms that weave Japanese folklore references and face the central courtyard or Toyokuni Shrine garden.

The Star Grand, Brisbane, Australia

A collection of restored heritage buildings, parklands, and F&B venues entice visitors to Queen’s Wharf, a 30-acre development in Brisbane. One of its most alluring components is Star Brisbane, an entertainment destination that will showcase the Star Grand, a 340-key hotel (the complex also includes Dorsett and Rosewood properties) nestled into two arc-shaped towers overlooking the Brisbane River. Set for a spring debut, guests will be invited to linger on the rooftop sky deck and the open-air leisure deck strewn with a trio of pools.

The StandardX, Melbourne

Lifestyle hotel pioneer the Standard is revisiting its youthful, energetic roots with the launch of spinoff brand the StandardX. Its inaugural 125-room hotel, in Melbourne’s industrial Fitzroy enclave, honors the area’s 1970s and ‘80s punk spirit with a fireplace loft, macramé-wrapped columns, and antiques in the lobby as well as minimalist blue and white guestrooms with millwork ledges that double as writing nooks. Thai restaurant BANG and the Roof, a Latin-inspired concept that crowns the property, further encapsulate the vibrant, culture-driven StandardX ethos.

The Tokyo EDITION, Ginza

Like its elder sibling, the Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon, the city’s new Ginza outpost is a collaboration between Ian Schrager Company and Kengo Kuma. Opening in March, the sleek tower it’s housed in marries a latticed metal façade with vertical gardens and its 86 guestrooms include 440-square-foot entry-level accommodations that are the largest in the shopping and entertainment district. Adding buzz to the property will be a Japanese brasserie, rooftop natural wine bar, and a branch of the brand’s signature Punch Room. Meanwhile, the brand’s inaugural Mexican property, the ISC- and Rockwell Group-designed beachfront Riviera Maya EDITION at Kanai, recently opened on a 620-acre nature reserve of mangroves.

The Standard, Singapore

The most recent Standard hotels to open in Southeast Asia, Hua Hin and Bangkok Mahanakhon, will be rounded out with a 143-room Singapore property when it opens this summer. Its green surroundings will be mirrored in the gardens interspersed throughout the public spaces, such as the pool bar, lawn, and deck that woo guests to hang out alfresco. In the guestrooms, floor-to-ceiling windows and tambour headboards also forge a connection to the outdoors.

Capella Taipei, Taiwan

The 86-room Capella Taipei will become an urban sanctuary in the heart of Daipei’s Dunhua North Road when it opens this winter. Conceived by André Fu Studio, the hotel’s concept of a modern mansion reflects Taipei—a modern city deeply rooted in its history. A handful of F&B options will define the property, including the Grill restaurant and a patisserie that channels and art gallery. Rounding out the offerings is Capella Wellness. Located on the second floor, it will focus on healing treatments inspired by traditional practices as well as the phases of the moon.

Our Habitas Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

Sustainably minded brand Our Habitas is strengthening its Latin American footprint with two openings: the forthcoming Our Habitas Mazunte in Oaxaca, Mexico; and Our Habitas Santa Teresa, its inaugural location in Costa Rica coming this spring. Tucked into a surfer’s jungle paradise at the bottom of Nicoya Peninsula, the beachfront property’s 55 accommodations, including 10 upscale tents, are complemented by an infinity pool, wellness rituals, and Suawe restaurant, which spotlights the region’s wood-fired cooking.

Banyan Tree Veya, Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico

Veya, the wellness-focused brand from Banyan Tree Group, debuted in Phuket, Thailand in 2022. Its second outpost, coming in March to Baja California, will showcase 30 villas, each with a private plunge pool, and Banyan Tree’s first proprietary winery on 16 acres of rolling hills. Further, Veya’s eight pillars of wellbeing will be celebrated through such rituals as traditional temazcal ceremonies.

Silvestre Nosara, Costa Rica

A homey atmosphere blending Japanese and Scandinavian minimalism pervades Silvestre Nosara, a sustainable jungle hideaway on Playa Guiones that opened in January. Its nine residences mingle natural stone floors with brass fixtures and surfboard wall décor that hints at the surf break just outside. After listening to a guest speaker or partaking in a wellness session, the rooftop lounge beckons with cocktails and an infinity pool.

Soho House São Paulo

The 36-room Soho House São Paulo—the brand’s second in Latin America following Mexico City’s opening in September—will be situated in an old maternity ward in Cidade Matarazzo, a cultural hub featuring retail, restaurants, and green spaces. In addition to preserving the building’s history, the design team will collaborate with local artisans to source pieces that honor the city’s Portuguese heritage as well as Brazilian modernism. When it debuts this quarter, guests will indulge in the rooftop pool, spa, or indoor/outdoor members spaces, all surrounded by lush tropical gardens.

SHA Mexico, Quintana Roo

Great demand for its flagship clinic in Alicante, Spain prompted SHA to expand its exclusive wellness brand to North America with an outpost in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Spanning 100 oceanfront guestrooms and 35 residences, the property, which opened in January, features personalized health programs, two restaurants, an infinity pool and beach club, and a design scheme that incorporates wicker, marble, and Mexican ceramics.

Nobu Hotel Toronto

Above the historic Pilkington Glass Factory complex in Toronto’s Entertainment District awaits the first-ever integrated Nobu hotel, restaurant, and residences. Crowning one of the two towers housing 660 residential units is the 36-suite urban lifestyle resort. Founded by chef Nobu Matsuhisa, actor Robert De Niro, and producer Meir Teper, the brand is distinguished by its signature Japanese aesthetic that is best captured in the 15,000-square-foot, two-story Nobu restaurant.

Hotel Casa Lucía, Buenos Aires

Edificio Mihanovich, in Buenos Aires’ Recoleta neighborhood, was once one of the tallest buildings in Latin America. Today, it’s the home to Hotel Casa Lucía. Guests are greeted by a large-scale mural from local artist Cristina Codern and the 142 guestrooms—many of which have balconies with outdoor showers and sun loungers capitalizing upon views of the Río de la Plata—are also brightened by works from Argentinean artist Cristián Mohaded.

St. Regis Cap Cana, Dominican Republic

Layering cultural references with natural elements, the 200-room St. Regis Cap Cana will honor the city’s diversity when it opens this year. Located on a secluded 16-acre sanctuary, the resort’s picturesque location informs the colors and textures of the minimalist yet refined design, which is centered on nature, sculptural forms, and the palm. The latter will appear in column-like light fixtures in the lobby that mimic the movement of palms swaying in the breeze as well as fabrics with patterns that imitate palm weaves.

Paradero Todos Santos Residences, Mexico

This summer, Paradero Todos Santos will launch 24 residential-style accommodations as an expansion of its existing hotel on Mexico’s Pacific Coast. The two- and three-bedroom residences will feature their own kitchens, rooftop terraces with Jacuzzis, Palo Verde tree shrines, and stargazing nets. Complemented by furnishings made in collaboration with local craftspeople, dark, earthy tones will interweave with rosa morada and tornillo woods, raw metals, and jute textiles that echo the property’s natural surroundings.

Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos, Mexico

With ocean views across the Baja California Sur peninsula, Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos is a coastal sanctuary comprising 79 suites, many of which boast private terraces and plunge pools. The hotel’s contemporary design reflects Mexico’s rich history, notable in details such as a cactus garden and the bougainvillaea that adorn balconies. F&B options abound, including access to the restaurants at the hotel’s nearby sister property, Grand Velas Los Cabos.

Rosewood Doha

Composed of 155 guestrooms, 162 extended-stay apartments, and 276 residences, Rosewood Doha is tucked inside a duo of latticed towers that mimic the coral reefs found in Qatar’s waters. Among the highlights are eight culinary outlets and Rosewood’s Asaya integrated wellness concept. Also in the brand’s 2024 pipeline: hotels in Amsterdam and Austria’s Lake Fuschl, as well as a Studio Piet Boon-designed resort in Miyakojima, Japan.

SIRO One Za’abeel, Dubai

SIRO, a new immersive lifestyle brand by Kerzner International, will debut this February at the One Za’abeel development in Dubai. With a focus on holistic wellbeing, it will feature soundproof guestrooms equipped with recovery equipment, a stretching bar, and smart curtains that adapt to natural light. The property will also include a two-floor, 10,000-square-foot training facility that offers fitness programs and movement classes.

Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, The Red Sea, Saudi Arabia

Situated on a breathtaking set of private islands, Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve will feature 63 one-to-three-bedroom water and beach villas, as well as an array of F&B outlets when it opens in winter. Forming part of the highly anticipated Red Sea destination, the resort—the brand’s first in the Middle East—will offer a range of amenities, including a lavish spa, swimming pools, kids club, and myriad entertainment offerings.

Cheval Blanc Seychelles

Cheval Blanc Seychelles will open this fall as a tropical sanctuary found on the southwestern coast of Mahé Island. Guests will sleep in one of 52 villas designed by Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston with private swimming pools and works by Madagascan artist Joël Andrianomearisoa, then spend time at the spa and five restaurants, including the pastel-tinted Le White, fresco-adorned Vivamento bar, and oceanfront beach club Sula.

Tawana, Botswana

Situated in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, Tawana is slated to open in May as an exclusive experience in Botswana’s untouched wilderness with eight private suites wrapped in organic tones and textures. Thomas Heyne and Mario Hertel founded Scorpios in 2015 as a gathering place for creatives in Mykonos. Now the duo will bring its music, art, and wellbeing-centered brand to Bodrum in June. Located on a 75,000-square-foot peninsula, this expanded iteration will have 12 suites, two restaurants, a club house, a beach club, and the multidisciplinary Ritual Space that hosts exhibitions and performances alike.

Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr, Morocco

Palm, olive, and citrus trees surround the Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr, a rehabbed 18th-century landmark opening this winter that served at turns as the summer residence of Sultan Moulay Slimane and as a military hospital. The 200-room oceanfront resort will mix five new buildings with six historic ones, including the two-story Sultan’s Riad with a private infinity-style pool.

The Lana, Dubai

Slated to open next month, the Lana, Dorchester Collection’s first foray in the Middle East, is set in a gleaming 30-story downtown Dubai tower from Foster + Partners that brings together several restaurants, a garden lounge, a spa and wellness center, and a rooftop pool that morphs into a nighttime lounge. Its 225 guestrooms will marry a palette of gold, olive, and beige with triple-height ceilings, stone parquet floors, and panoramic windows.

MGallery Gigiri Gem Forest Hotel Nairobi, Kenya

The 105-key Gigiri Gem Forest Hotel Nairobi – MGallery is set to debut this year in the city’s affluent Gigiri neighborhood. The material palette will make subtle yet authentic references to Africa with details including large banana palm trees in the lobby that nod to the nearby Karura Forest. Overlooking the forest, the rooftop will boast a bar and restaurant (one of four F&B concepts) and an infinity pool with a terrazzo median providing an oasis for guests.
