Studio Modijefsky continues to leave its signature on Amsterdam’s culinary landscape, this time with new all-day bistro Ami.
Located in the Dutch capital’s popular De Pijp district, the concept was crafted to resemble the style of traditional Parisian cafés, while mixing in modern, playful, and eclectic design moments. “The interior elegantly unites both worlds by mixing glamour with freshness,” says Studio Modijefsky founder Esther Stam.
A palette of soft red, vintage orange, and crispy blue hues enliven a timeless materiality comprising marble, wood, polished leather, textured glass, and mirrors. Abundant tiling also ensconces guests in a white and pink envelope accented by warm alabaster lamps that add a dash of romance. Combed plaster ceilings create sensuous interplay of light and shadow in the basement and mezzanine as well.
The key focal point of the interior, however, is the glossy ceiling above the bar composed of red wooden slats and a swath of spherical lamps. The warm heart of Ami, the bar is fronted with black and pink stones and features blue marble and a variety of woods as well. Custom wooden tables with pink granite inserts are installed opposite the bar along with banquettes wrapped in matte and polished leather against fresh blue paned glass.
On the upper level, a curious neon composition glows across the ceiling above a long banquette paired with custom wood tables and vintage chairs. The terrace activates the façade of the corner bistro with black- and white-striped awnings stretched above furniture that delivers a counterpoint with warm, coral orange and bespoke wood furniture.
