Ánimo, a restaurant serving Mexican breakfast and lunch, has opened in New York with interiors by Jordana Maisie Design Studio (JMDS).
Drawing upon the rich heritage of Mexican craftsmanship, the design weaves together a symphony of textures and materials.
The space is anchored by custom sapele hardwood tabletops and flowing terrazzo counters that exude warmth and authenticity.
Curved tile-clad millwork, inspired by the fluid lines of Mexican architecture, serves as a striking focal point, blending playful sophistication into Ánimo’s intimate dining experience.
Natural light pours in through south-facing windows, casting a soft glow across brushed aluminum surfaces, while handmade tiles embrace the curving banquette seating and point-of-sale area.
“We wanted to capture the spirit of the project name, Ánimo,” says studio founder Jordana Maisie. “In Spanish, Ánimo signifies the act of reassuring, of encouraging someone to overcome a challenge—to not give up. This is a sentiment intended to liberate you from the day-to-day grind of a bustling city like Manhattan. To embody this energy, we wanted to break with the linear grid of Midtown, and introduce flow, play, and texture into a space that pushes out into the city grid from the corner, inviting people in.”
