The lobby bar has opened at Hotel Chelsea in New York. Embodying the property’s effortless balance of grandeur and intimacy, the living room-like space is the first bar and lounge to ever open onsite. “We tried to simply honor and restore the historic space,” says Hotel Chelsea co-owner Sean MacPherson, who designed the space with fellow co-owners Ira Drukier and Richard Born.
In addition to plush velvet bar and lounge seating, the sumptuous venue is lined with original mosaic floors and restored ceilings from which vintage chandeliers are suspended. Topped with marble, the large bar serves as the key focal point against a backdrop of wood-paneled walls.
Highlights from the hotel’s sprawling art collection are also showcased in the bar, while a pair of solariums populated with abundant greenery are hosted just off the bar and linked via an open-air garden terrace.
The Bard Room, located adjacent to the bar, has also debuted as the hotel’s newest event space, equipped to accommodate up to 120 guests.
