Petra Roasting Co., a specialty coffee shop with several locations across Istanbul, has set up a new storefront in the city’s Beyoğlu district.
In a renovated Art Nouveau building, the café, designed by Sanayi313, sits below the ground level, prompting the local studio to bring in as much natural light as possible, while taking advantage of the existing geometric architecture.
The interiors are minimal and definitively modern with a material palette comprising stainless steel, walnut, brick blocks, cork, and industrial lighting. The shop’s long, narrow layout is layered into a series of subtly linked spaces with different functions.
Designed in a cascading form to merge with the stairs, a stainless steel bar extends along the length of the space. Contrasting against the sleek bar are pastry display platters sourced from Kütahya, a historical city famous for creating ceramic arts since the Ottoman era.
To the right of the stairs is a magazine and book corner, crafted as a working area for customers. Here, custom magazine racks covered in walnut veneer create a welcoming and cozy atmosphere.
Petra Pera also houses a retail concept designed as a natural extension of the café. Equipped with modular systems for flexible arrangements, the store’s changing room is a mirrored box that maximizes the perception of space in the compact area.
