Named for the patron saint of photography, Verōnika is slated to debut as the signature F&B space at the recently opened Fotografiska museum in New York. Designed by locally based design firm and 2019 Platinum Circle honoree Roman and Williams, the restaurant will embody light, form, and composition in harmony with the Beaux-Arts structure it calls home.
Located on the second floor of the Park Avenue building, it will greet visitors via a twilight-toned hallway opening up to the dining room where a mural of a bohemian forest landscape establishes a pervasive connection between paintings and photography. The interior further highlights the bond between the two mediums through earthy and cyan tones reminiscent of a Piet Mondrian painting. Meanwhile, the bar space juxtaposes feminine and masculine influences with black marble contrasting shades of dawn in the encompassing mural and the native stained glass window.
Massive brass chandeliers are suspended from the ceiling to gently infuse warmth and illuminate the soft palette and pale oak floors. Flattened interior arches are detailed with wood trim, while blackened brass arch doorways illustrate a dichotomy of modernism. Curvaceous, mohair seating further features an arched form that reinforces a 19th and 20th-century design influence.
