The Beacon Grand, located in the heart of San Francisco, has unveiled a new selection of suites, including one grand suite, one-bedroom suites, and junior suites.
The 885-square-foot grand suite features a spacious living room, a bathroom with a shower and separate soaking tub, as well as a rooftop terrace. The new one-bedroom suites span 580 square feet and boast high ceilings and views of the city, while the junior suites range from 330 to 420 square feet with an open layout furnished with a king bed, sitting area, and a spacious bathroom.
The reveal of the new accommodations follow the Beacon Grand’s reopening last year—a redesign project led by New Jersey-based firm KKAD, which transformed from the former Sir Francis Drake Hotel. The 418 revived guestrooms and suites blend old-world craftsmanship with modern touches, featuring reclaimed European oak floors, regal blue wall panels, railroad shower tiles, and architectural molding. The city’s most notable attractions are woven into custom damask wallcoverings that form a backdrop for bespoke furniture.
“A hotel with a history as rich as the Beacon Grand first demands that we look at the building in the larger context of the neighborhood and then the city,” says Kraig Kalashian, managing partner and founder of KKAD. “San Francisco and Union Square provided the initial finish palette inspiration, first through the blues and greens of the finish palette—inspired by the water—and then the gold tones, which can be seen in the lighting and hardware. Because the building has such a strong architectural vocabulary we only wanted to add materials and finishes that complemented the craftsmanship of the original building.”
While the Beacon Grand has been reimagined for the present, it preserves its European renaissance atmosphere with a marble staircase in the lobby, grand chandeliers, regal blue walls, and bronze fixtures. The mezzanine, which overlooks the lobby, holds the Beacon Lounge, where an original fireplace and mantle have been restored. Here, intricate moldings, handmade iron railings, and inlaid ceilings are complemented by warm, neutral tones.
“Like the city, the Beacon Grand offers different experiences and landscapes, much like the interlocking neighborhoods of the city itself,” adds Kalashian.
