Overlooking the Piazza dell’Esquilino in the Monti district of the Italian capital, the DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti has debuted with an elevated style conceived by London-based design studio THDP. The design-driven concept, which is housed within two transformed structures, pays homage to the historic vernacular of its location with a palette dominated by earth tones, natural materials—including wood, stone, and plaster—and contemporary accents of brushed metal, bronze, and copper.
“Our main goal, as designers, was to bring back, to the eternal city, these special properties,” says THDP founder and partner Manuela Mannino. “A place where to experience the local culture for international travelers, but also to create a new hub for locals.”
The sundrenched residential-style lobby welcomes visitors with a design oriented around a skylight. Seven arches punctuate reception in reference to the arches of nearby Termini station and the seven hills of Rome—the tallest of which, Esquilino, is home to the hotel. Across the open lobby, areas for work, relaxation, and socializing are distinguished by varied carpeting and complement one another through laidback furniture and a minimal palette of wood and dark bronze.
In addition to the bar and café Mit, F&B options include the Mamalia restaurant, which features an industrial flair amplified by an open kitchen and balanced with warm tones. The eighth floor is home to indoor-outdoor bar concept Mùn, which is attached to a terrace overlooking panoramic city views. Additionally, three modular meeting spaces and a fitness center round out the onsite amenities.
All 133 accommodations feature neutral hues of dark green and bronze, while travertine and wood infuse warmth. Beds are equipped with burnt iron shades and headboards fashioned akin to the white marble columns found throughout the city, and bathrooms are clad in Gres tiles and concrete for a “cementine” effect executed in a hexagonal arrangement.
