Hôtel Swexan opened its doors last month within Dallas’ luxury, 19-city block Harwood District development.
Developed by Harwood International, the new 134-room property offers a worldly experience, melding Swiss hospitality with Texas charm, along with nods to several European cities.
The Hôtel Swexan experience begins with its mirrored exterior, designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates, seamlessly blending in and reflecting the vibrant colors of its surroundings. “We were assigned the task of designing the building’s façades, which for us was like tailoring a suit made of local materials,” says Kengo Kuma, founder of Kengo Kuma & Associates. “The horizontals and verticals build on the theme found throughout our projects for Harwood, a loose and woven grid. This suit should feel made for the spaces and the rich diversity within, welcoming, with surprising moments and movement throughout. This exterior coat sets the tone, and wears through the day with changing light, from morning to dusk and into the evening.”
Once inside, guests are met by an interior design that takes cues from the world’s most grand cities. Architectural details bring to mind a classic 19th-century Parisian residence, with comfortable yet elegant furnishings and hand-carved stone and wooden fireplaces on each floor.
Hôtel Swexan is also home to five dining concepts. Texas steakhouse Stillwell’s is complete with plush seating and walnut accents; Isabelle’s offers afternoon tea on a Parisian-inspired patio that converts to a swanky martini bar in the evening; Babou’s is an intimate two-story library with an unexpected cocktail lounge featuring eclectic décor; and the rooftop features Pomelo and Leonie, two exclusive spots for international food and drink open to hotel guests only.
