Lifestyle aparthotel brand Locke has revealed plans to expand its European footprint this year with the addition of two properties in Germany. WunderLocke is slated to launch in Munich in May 2022, while Locke at East Side Gallery in Berlin will open in July 2022.
“After successfully opening six new Locke locations in 2021, it has been hugely rewarding to see Locke evolve from a new arrival to a major player in the hospitality space,” says Eric Jafari, chief development officer and creative director of edyn, Locke’s parent company. “Staying true to our values, our new locations in Munich and Berlin take cues from the surrounding neighborhood to inform their design and experience. However, both projects push the boundaries for us in new ways—from their scale, to the unique local partnerships we’ve built, and the risks we’ve taken to create truly memorable moments at each location.”
WunderLocke will comprise 360 spacious studio apartments across a complex crafted by London-based design practice Holloway Li, which also designed Bermonds Locke in London. The property’s amenities will include meeting and event spaces, a large coworking area, a workout studio, and heated indoor pool. Four F&B options will also be housed onsite, including Mural Farmhouse, which will feature an urban farm that supplies herbs and vegetables for the concept, and a rooftop cocktail bar. Several suites—boasting roof terraces and large dining areas—will be available, too.
Designed by Matthew Grzywinski of New York-based firm Grzywinski+Pons, Locke at East Side Gallery will house 176 sleek studios equipped with kitchenettes and living rooms. Select units will even feature private balconies overlooking views of the Berlin skyline or the River Spree. In addition to the complimentary coworking area, the location will offer a coffee shop, a 24-hour fitness center wrapped in floor-to-ceiling windows, and flexible meeting and event spaces—including a rooftop terrace. An audiophile bar and restaurant will be featured as well.
“Our alternative to the traditional hotel has never felt more relevant, and we look forward to establishing ourselves further in Germany and across Europe in the coming years,” Jafari adds.
