Boston-based studio Parker-Torres Design has completed the multimillion-dollar refresh of the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. The artful reinvention complements the hotel’s bayside location through layered colors, patterns, and textures that convey relaxed sophistication. “The design motif for Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina can be described as ‘an urban buzz with a beachside state of mind,’” says Parker-Torres designer Regan McLean.
Dark metal elements, sleek glass, and modern accents complement the neighborhood’s metropolitan vernacular, while soft sandy hues, rope accents, and layered textures convey a beachy flair. “These two opposing design structures were thoughtfully paired with warm wood tones, serene ocean-inspired artwork, and subtle color infusions to create a seamless bright, fresh, and contemporary guest experience,” McLean adds.
On the ground floor, the energetic hues of San Diego sunsets permeate the new M Club Lounge. An apt location for coworking or casual dining, the vibrant space’s soft, natural details are accentuated throughout the day via diffused lighting. The North Tower lobby, meanwhile, adopts a palette of blue and green in homage to the nearby Pacific Ocean.
Revamped guestrooms echo the soft blue hues of the tower, channeling the azure allure of the sky and sea. Spread across a pair of signature towers, the 1,366 guestrooms and suites were crafted akin to the hull of a boat docked in the adjacent marina, with light wood accents and nautical details—like rope and metal hardware—that further infuse a sense of place. New carpeting also depicts an abstract meeting of the shore and ocean as well.
