The Garland hotel has reopened in Los Angeles following an extensive $20 million multi-phase revamp.
In 1970, actress Beverly Garland and husband Fillmore Crank founded the hotel in North Hollywood’s San Fernando Valley. The seven-acre site is currently owned by Garland’s family-operated Rio Vista Development and managed by Marcus Hotels & Resorts. The property is nearby Universal Studios, Universal CityWalk, Hollywood, Walt Disney Pictures, Universal Studios, and Warner Brothers Studios.
Its top-to-bottom renovation includes the guestrooms, lobby, lobby bar, an outdoor wedding and events venue, and the addition of the Front Yard restaurant, which features a large outdoor patio, a bar, and a firepit.
“The official opening of the Garland is a very proud moment for the entire team,” says Garland’s son James Crank, who obtained ownership of the property in 2000. “My mother is the muse of the property, and we were determined to preserve her style and legacy. With that in mind, the transformation is now consistent with today’s discerning traveler, incorporating a vibrant, playful, and welcoming atmosphere with a core focus on service and the guest experience.”
Last November, the 257-room hotel revealed its first phase of redevelopment, which was completed by locally based Forchielli Glynn and San Diego-based Rossi Architecture. The guestrooms, lobby, and lobby bar were refreshed with bright colors and a bohemian California aesthetic. A total of 14 suites were named after Garland’s family members, including the Carrington, Cathleen, Fillmore, and James suites. The latter is a 1,000-square-foot penthouse with separate living, kitchen, and master bedroom areas, and three balconies.
Meanwhile, the lobby was expanded with the Store retail outlet, a California-inspired gift shop curated by Garland’s daughter Carrington Goodman.
