The Moore Hotel is one of the newest tenants in the Chelsea section of New York. The intimate 81-room boutique concept honors the history of both the neighborhood and the site, which was the former home of poet and scholar Clement Clarke Moore. The design by Vanessa Guilford evokes a simple and streamlined modern elegance, which she describes as “urban luxe, but not fussy.”
Wood tones and rich colors characterize the Moore’s interiors along with the subtle juxtaposition of light and dark, and hard and soft. A flexible lighting design further accents the design’s dramatic balancing act and establishes a sexy but sociable atmosphere. “Quality over quantity,” Guilford adds. “All my favorite design qualities.”
Dark and moody hallways complemented by soft white lighting lead to accommodations, which also showcase a stylish juxtaposition of elements. Set against a neutral palette and off-white textured walls, hard metallic furniture details offset soft teak wood and functional oak flooring. Black gloss accentuates the bevel edge of bathroom wall tiles as well.
Two inviting F&B spaces—the lobby’s Café Moore and Moore Wine, a seasonal rooftop destination—are also featured onsite.
