Joe Lipton and Michelle Friar—the husband-and-wife hotelier team behind luxury waterfront hotel the Viewpoint—have opened the Nevada.
Located in York, Maine, the 21-key property is the revival of a 70-year-old motel that operated under the same name.
The Nevada’s new iteration was crafted by CR Design in collaboration with Lipton and Friar. The team preserved the building’s curved L-shape structure—inspired by the decks of the USS Nevada—and added a third story in the same midcentury architectural style.
Maintaining the quintessential 1950s motel aesthetic, the exterior is rendered in a white palette with teal accents, while the interiors pull inspiration from the Art Deco beach scene. Pop art-style pieces by local artists Kyle Nelson and Dan Dellapasqua line the walls, punctuating the interiors with bright moments of color.
Each of the 21 king rooms feature its own private terrace and a bathroom outfitted with peacock blue tile, black and white terrazzo floors, and lavish glass showers.
The hotel is also home to restaurant and tiki bar Lulu’s, named after the owners’ daughter. The 75-seat indoor-outdoor venue embraces a playful, tropical beachside vibe. The space is anchored by an 11-seat indoor-outdoor bar fashioned with forest green tile, velvet bar stools, and tropical wallpaper.
The renovation also prioritized making the building more eco-friendly. This included raising the Nevada by three and half feet out of the flood zone. Now, the building is equipped with energy efficient systems, including heat pumps in each room, and on-demand hot water heaters with a recirculating pump.
