Along the scenic banks of the Douro river in Porto, Portugal, the Rebello emerges as Bomporto Hotels’ third venture in the country. The hotel, spanning four 19th-century industrial buildings, reflects the irreverent and informal style of its Lisbon counterparts.
Spanish interior designer Daniela Franceschini, founder and CEO of Quiet Studios, shaped the Rebello’s identity with an eclectic aesthetic enlivened by original artwork that encourages visitors to reflect on craftsmanship and the creative process. The design is inspired by the “innovative nature of artists who had to find creative solutions to utilize industrial spaces—never intended for residential use—for both living and working,” says Franceschini.
The Rebello’s design features distinctive colors, textures, and materials complemented by art and furniture made by Portuguese makers. The palette evokes a nautical ambiance. For instance, an installation in the reception area is crafted from reused materials from famous rabelos, lighting suggestive of sailboats, and undulating mirrors that evoke the movement of the sea.
The 103 accommodations, available in a range of layouts from studios to three-bedroom penthouses, are characterized by soft tones, walnut wood, steel, and concrete. The nautical inspiration carries into the guestrooms, with sinks inspired by water tanks and headboards resembling the rippling Douro waters.
“The goal is for visitors to experience and observe the creative process, and to live amongst artist-made pieces to feel inspired and energized,” Franceschini notes.
