Standard Hotels has launched its second European outpost, this time in the beachy Spanish destination of Ibiza. Housed within a former movie theater in the island’s Old Town, the Standard, Ibiza amplifies the unfussy and sophisticated character of its setting. “The inspiration of our design was to pay homage to the roots of Ibiza and its ‘flower power’ origins, while elevating with a modern twist,” says Verena Haller, chief design officer for the Standard. “We want our guests to feel like they are entering a space that has been here forever and, yet, at the same time is something new, fresh, and exciting.”
To reflect its surroundings, the 67-room hotel is awash in native flora, which is animated across fabric patterns as well. Soft materials offset sun-bleached masonry and infuse a calmness in tandem with a medley of warm hues. Custom murals from artist Nicolás Villamizar also enliven the property with scenes inspired by the frenetic allure of Ibizan parties.
Public spaces—like the street-level Mediterranean eatery Jara—are distinguished by a cozy, intuitive lighting design that allows the spaces to seamlessly transition from day to night. Set against the backdrop of sweeping island vistas, the vibrant rooftop concept UP serves as the hotel’s key social hub. Haller adds, “The focus, overall, for this project was to be effortless and welcoming, while at the same time elegant and curated.”
