The Blockade Runner Beach Resort, a coastal North Carolina landmark since 1964, will undergo renovations and rebrand as a Trailborn hotel.
Upon completion in early 2025, the Blockade Runner will emerge as Trailborn Surf & Sound, named for the property’s location in Wrightsville Beach with the sound on one side and the ocean on the other. The hotel will remain open during the renovation period.
The 151-key Trailborn Surf & Sound will feature fully renovated guestrooms and public spaces crafted in partnership with design firm Post Company.
The interior design will marry contemporary style with nods to the iconic location, like natural beachside materials and highlighting water views.
The property’s flexible indoor and outdoor meeting and event spaces, including a 2,800-square-foot ballroom, will also be upgraded.
In alignment with the Trailborn brand and the resort’s longstanding commitment to sustainability and community involvement, the guest experience will prioritize environmentally friendly practices and continue to support local initiatives, including the NC Coastal Federation.
“We’re thrilled to breathe new life into the Blockade Runner, honoring everything people love about the property while infusing it with a fresh design extending from the rooms to onsite food and beverage,” says Mike Weiss, cofounder and co-CEO of Trailborn.
“Our goal is to retain the beloved charm that has made it a cornerstone of the Wrightsville Beach community, and ensure that its unparalleled service, history, and unique character continue to create more unforgettable memories for returning and new guests alike,” Weiss adds. “We have gotten to know the Wrightsville Beach community over the past year and are honored to be opening a Trailborn in such a special place.”
