Royal Caribbean Cruises has consolidated its operations within a new Miami headquarters crafted by HOK. Designed akin to cruise liners, the new campus is located on Dodge Island in close proximity to cruise terminals and ships in Biscayne Bay. Elevated atop a green campus, the building embodies resilience in the face of climate change with a lobby situated more than 15 feet above sea level.
“Informed by the modern design and playful nature of Royal Caribbean’s ships, the building flows up from the water’s edge,” says Kenneth Drucker, design principal at HOK. “The undulating facade and terraces eventually culminate in a three-level garden atrium space. This volumetric outdoor space brings the healing power of nature right into the heart of the building, reinforcing Royal Caribbean’s commitment to wellness.”
Each floor of the sinuous complex extends outward to create horizontal shading that varies from three to 12 feet in depth. LED lights will trace the perimeter of each cantilevered floor plate to establish the building as a dramatic beacon. The boomerang form of the building also infuses abundant natural daylight across the interior. Amenities include an auditorium, training rooms, two cafeterias, and an executive suite and event space, which are housed across the top floors of the headquarters, surrounded by a lush sky garden.
