In the heart of Vancouver, Canada, Mink Lash Boutique emerges as a ultra-modern beauty salon designed by locally based firm Schédio.
The space is defined by an organic, feminine design concept that channels the spirit of an elevated Alice in Wonderland. The interior color palette is dominated by a soft putty pink, while a blend of dusty rose, muted olive, and sandy beige line the floors.
At arrival, a gold-covered reception desk appears as though it is melting into the floor. The adjacent circular waiting area reveals an upholstered seating structure with a preserved floral and moss centerpiece by Kyoko Higa of Kado Flower Studios.
The walls of the boutique were constructed from steel, with tiny perforated holes that allow gold back painting to subtly shine through. Powder-coated metal was manipulated into a curved form and installed to create a series of flutes and reeds that run from the floor to the ceiling. Intersecting the curved panels is thin brass shelving cut in an organic shape and finished with a bullnose edge to soften the reflection of light.
Custom lash beds are grouped into pods, adorned with two-toned vegan leather, brass legs, and frosted acrylic separators. Delicate curtains of meshed aluminum suspend above each pod grouping, creating a fabric-like effect. Small pendant lights drop down between the metal sheets, a design that “is quite striking from a vertical perspective” Schédio principal designer and CEO Jenalee Nordstrom says. “But the true beauty of the installation unfolds when experienced from the horizontal vantage point—lying on the beds and looking upwards.”
“I wanted to create a setting where boundaries blurred, where the walls seamlessly melded into the floor, faucets descended from the ceiling, and the reception desk felt like it was melting and pooling on the floor,” Nordstrom continues. “A space that transforms the ordinary into a dreamscape.”
