Located in Riyadh, Surround eschews the expected look of burger joints for “a more feminine-orientated design that is loud and proud,” says H2R Design cofounder Husain Roomi, who handled the design alongside his brother, Hasan.

The interior is punctuated by a number of bold colors, while oak timber and rattan elements soften the design.

The minimal yet playful aesthetic features quirky details like sketches and doodles found on the walls, which evoke nostalgia. “We focused on making Surround a spirited playground for adults while retaining the elegant side,” says Hasan.

With elegant brass detailing paired with a largely pastel palette, the design scheme is all about balance. “We didn’t want to scare people off by being too childlike, and we didn’t want it to feel too sophisticated either,” adds Husain.

The restaurant features a variety of seating options, including banquettes and communal tables, to comfortably accommodate any size group.

Tabletops are made with white square tiles that feature pink grout.
