Situated near the waterfront inside Boston’s Seaport district, the sprawling Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport is a scenic addition to the Omni Hotels & Resorts portfolio, which also counts the historic Omni Parker House in Downtown Boston among its properties.
Dallas-based Waldrop + Nichols Studio was tapped to bring the 1,054-room hotel to life, calling upon the Massachusetts city’s rich history to anchor it in a sense of place. Working with Riggs Art Consultants, the design firm selected 236 artworks to dress up the hotel. “Many of the artworks support the fluidity of the building with its large open flowing spaces, while others provide a connection to the innovation of the Seaport district, or to Boston’s strong collegiate culture. Artwork was designed and specifically chosen based on location within the hotel [to provide] maximum impact,” says Waldrop.
In the lobby, for instance, a collection of 29 black and white photographs captured by different photographers takes viewers behind the scenes of various stages of performance in Boston’s historic venues.
Inside Mediterranean fusion restaurant, Kestra—a shortened version of the word orchestra—photographs by Neal Grundy feature swaths of colorful fabric captured using a freeze motion technique that makes them appear as if they were mid-dance. “The architectural footprint allows guests and the local community space to meander and absorb the installations, which all highlight artist name and bio for self-guided tours,” adds Andrea Waldrop, president of Waldrop + Nichols.
On the ground floor, a golden wall containing sheet music from Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, the first piece of sheet music played by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, delineates the Crescendo lobby bar. Other F&B concepts include the fifth-floor Lifted pool bar (the Seaport District’s only rooftop pool) and the Sporting Club, a polished take on traditional sports bars, where a glowing, curvilinear bar unwinds in the center of the space.
Meanwhile, at Coquette restaurant (operated by local restaurant group COJE), the décor pays homage to Rococo and Art Nouveau with lavish, brightly colored fixtures and murals in the style of Czech artist Alphonse Mucha. Also contained within the 100,000-square-foot hotel are to-go eateries Legato Grab & Go, French bakery Cocorico, and Breve Spa, where wood-wrapped walls and stone-accented furniture create a tranquil oasis for treatments.
