Hospitality Design (HD) is joining forces with West Elm to present the seventh annual HD/West Elm Student Product Design Competition. Current students and those who have been out of school for up to a year are eligible to enter. The deadline for submissions has been extended to March 21st.
This year, West Elm is looking for a dining chair intended for hospitality and commercial spaces. The winning designer will receive a $5,000 prize and have their product produced by West Elm.
The dining chair should reflect the West Elm brand aesthetic while remaining aesthetic versatility to complement various environments, including restaurants, bistros, lobbies, and guestrooms.
Additionally, the dining chair should make use of mixed materials suitable for high-traffic environments; must be upholstered, with optional upholstery on the seat back; include both an armless and armed version; have a comfortable supportive back; make use of stretchers to ensure durability; and be structurally sound enough to support 300 lbs. and 12 hours of continuous use. It must also be original and unique in the market.
