The team behind beloved New York eatery L’Artusi has unveiled its latest concept, B’Artusi, just down the block from its sister property on Hudson Street in Manhattan’s West Village. The new restaurant and wine bar was crafted by locally based studio Carpenter + Mason with a distinctive warmth that conveys both a sense of history and place.
“We really wanted B’Artusi to become a place of celebration and community,” says Carpenter + Mason principal Sarah Carpenter. “The client emphasized that B’Artusi should feel like a neighborhood joint and, for us, it was important to consider the current West Village neighborhood context while also creating a place that is decidedly ‘not home.’”
Carpenter + Mason looked to tea rooms of the 1920s to steer the aesthetic of the space, which recalls the era with an assemblage of patterns, bright colors, and wallpaper. A bright pea green hue adorns the bar face, offset by burgundy-hued barstools and checkerboard floors. Rich wood, vintage mirrors, and classic materials—including marble and brass—balance the atmosphere along with raffia scalloped sconce shades designed with a “grandma chic” flair by London-based designer Matilda Goad. Lush greenery, a wall of artwork, and alfresco seating further enliven B’Artusi into an inviting neighborhood dive.
