Paris-based designer Michael Malapert has completed the design of the Dandy hotel, located nearby the Les Halles shopping district in the French capital. Conceived as the ritzy abode of a dandy, the property marries classic and modern sensibilities to instill glamour across an environment full of surprises. “The concept is original in the Parisian hotel landscape because it is first a restaurant with a bar,” Malapert says. “It is a reverse speakeasy where the hotel is hidden inside the restaurant.”
Beyond a traditional façade, the lobby comprises a cozy living room accented by velvet curtains and the Mediterranean F&B space. Elements like zinc countertops and small brass columns honor the palettes of Parisian cafés and also support a seamless transition from a daytime coffee shop to a cocktail bar in the evening.
An upscale materiality of velvet, wood, and leather characterize the interiors, while terrazzo and graphic carpeting serve as a backdrop for modern art installed throughout corridors and public areas. A total of 35 loft-like guestrooms abound beyond the restaurant and are accessed via a vestibule also linked to a wardrobe. Headboards serve as the main focal point of each chamber as they merge feminine and masculine forms against a backdrop of black decorative braids on the walls alongside objets d’art. A large mirror and marble and mosaic details expand the cozy accommodations as well.
