The Hoxton, Vienna has opened within a marble-clad modernist landmark building. Part of the Ennismore family of brands, the new property features 196 guestrooms along with a rooftop bar, pool, bistro, basement cocktail bar, and event spaces, including the Hoxton’s first auditorium.
The architectural heritage of the Carl Appel-designed 1950s building—formerly home to the city’s Chamber of Commerce—served as a launchpad for the interior design narrative, which is the handiwork of AIME Studios. The overall aesthetic is both playful and elegant—with Austrian midcentury flair paired with the brand’s signature layered aesthetic.
A light-filled, double-height lobby is framed by original travertine walls and terrazzo flooring, and dressed with ruby red sofas, ’50s-inspired statement armchairs, and lush greenery. A dramatic backlit staircase sits at the rear of the lobby, too.
Throughout the hotel, locally sourced vintage furnishings and bespoke rugs create a homely feel, while bold tiling adds a spirited layer. Spaces are filled with artwork curated by Sterling Art, including an oil painting of Berlin’s iconic concert hall Konzerthaus by local artist Rudolf Fitz and a large abstract botanical piece by Austrian artist Rini Spiel.
Tucked off on the side of the lobby is all-day bistro Bouvier, a bold space with a checkerboard terrazzo floor, deep red wall paneling, and an open kitchen. The hotel’s underground cocktail bar, Salon Paradise, captures the essence of the experimental Beat Generation with a burl-timber bar, aged leather banquettes, and low ceilings. Meanwhile, the Cayo Coco rooftop transports guests to Cuba in the ’50s with tropical interiors marked by bespoke rattan furniture, bright blue ceramic-tiled columns, and bold artwork.
Each guestroom references early-20th-century Austrian design—from geometric patterned curtains influenced by Wiener Werkstätte fabrics to ruched headboards inspired by architect Adolf Loos’ inimitable style. Rooms feel calm and inviting, with local photography and era-inspired art, bold painted ceilings, warm wooden accents, and parquet flooring.
