The Well has debuted its first West Coast location at the Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection.
Set upon the coast of the Sea of Cortés in Los Cabos, Mexico, the wellness destination also marks the brand’s second international outpost (The Well at Hacienda AltaGracia opened in Costa Rica in 2021).
Designed by New York-based Nina Gotlieb, the Well at Chileno Bay evokes the natural splendor of the Baja Peninsula and honors local Mexican design heritage. “The overall goal for the project was to make a guest feel a sense of total escape—to invoke a sense of deep presence in the experience that’s almost unexpected,” Gotlieb says. “The existing spaces gave us an incredible foundation upon which to build.”
A pair of plush hanging beds punctuate the arrival experience, accented by aromatic herbs and a grounding sound bowl. The design permeates a sense of place through locally sourced materials, including Parota wood, travertine, dried palm leaf, and selenite. Wood-fired ceramics and charred wood furniture perpetuate a heat motif as well. Each of the nine spacious wellness rooms, including a specialized suite, embrace the resort’s open-air aesthetic with floor-to-ceiling windows and private terraces that offer views of the sea and tropical onsite gardens.
Pebbled floors line the Nap Garden & Reflexology Pool, where luxe, cozy cabanas await. The semi-enclosed alfresco lounge further immerses guests in the wellness experience with custom sound sculptures and chimes. “The walls around the space serve as surfaces for sounds to reverberate, creating a perfect room for gong rituals and sound baths,” Gotlieb adds, “while the open-air allows light breezes to activate chimes that create gentle sounds to enhance the guest’s use of the adjacent thermal areas.”
