Designed by Mexico City-based firm Taller David Dana, Toloa Rooftop in McAllen, Texas blends modern aesthetics with sophisticated materials to create an elevated dining experience.
Upon entry, guests are welcomed by a grand hallway featuring subtle sloping lines that evoke a sense of mystery and exclusivity to encourage further exploration. The space unfolds into a modern mixology area, characterized by a polished concrete counter with wood accents and indirect lighting.
From the mixology area, guests are led into a 53-seat dining room via a series of revolving doors that offer varying levels of openness and privacy.
One of the restaurant’s most prominent elements is the vaulted ceiling, which is complemented by an interplay of warm wood and simulated concrete. Wood is found in the wainscoting for the walls and ceilings, as well as furniture that exudes warmth and timelessness. Meanwhile, the use of simulated concrete adds a solid, contemporary touch that creates a striking contrast of tones and textures.
Lighting also plays a pivotal role, with a combination of indirect and pinpoint lighting that accentuates the quality of materials while creating distinct atmospheres throughout the space.
Leather-clad furniture seamlessly integrates with the design, while glass enhances the sense of spaciousness, allowing reflections to play within the interiors and visually connect the restaurant with an outdoor terrace. The terrace, designed as a social gathering space, extends the overall design experience outdoors.
